Alleviating pain
Make sure that you are taking any medication as prescribed by your doctor. Check the instructions and follow them. Contact your surgery or pharmacist if you are unsure about what to do.
Gentle exercises and stretches can help in certain situations (unless your doctor advises otherwise), it is generally better to try to keep mobile, especially if your illness lasts a long time. It is sensible to talk to your doctor about exercise. Whilst many conditions are helped by exercise, some people could make their problem worse. Your doctor should be able give you advice as to what the best sort of exercise for you is.
Ask your doctor if physiotherapy could help with your pain.
Your local hospital Pain Clinic may be able to help. They are specialists in medication to alleviate pain, and they may offer other treatments such as acupuncture. They may also advise on the suitability of alternative therapies such as Pilates, Osteopathy, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Hypnotherapy, Massage Therapy, Reiki etc.
Keeping warm
Keeping warm is often something that helps people with pain problems. Some houses may not be very good at keeping the warmth in. This could mean that the costs of keeping warm are not affordable! There are various schemes to help people to keep warm and to improve the insulation of the house.
Keeping occupied
Try to occupy your time so that you can focus on something that you are interested in. It is not good for anyone to spend their time on their own or doing nothing to occupy themselves. The internet provides a way of interacting with others, especially those who may have similar problems as yourself. They can help you and you may be surprised to find that you can help other people.
